Beauty Habbits That Can Sabotage Your Beauty Routine

Ok beauties!!  Here is the dish on little things that can sabotage your beauty routine and what you can do to fix them!

When it comes to your beauty routine, it's easy to pick up a bad habit or two.  While it's not the end of the world if you slip up once in a while, but repeating the same mistakes over and over is considered poor hygiene and can potentially lead to sskin irritations, eye infections or breakouts.

So here is how to kick these seven beauty blunders.

  1. Sleeping with makeup on.
Neglecting to remove your makeup before bedtime is a big NO-NO!  It clogs your pores and can cause acne breakouts (eww).  Plus. if you do it repeatedly, your skin can look dull over time due to product buildup.

To rectify this bad habit, hit the bathroom sink the moment you arrive home for the night, before you get sleepy.  I recommend using Illuminate Clean Facial Cleanser for normal/dry skin, and Illuminate Clear Facial Cleanser for oily skin.

If you still can't manage that, then keep makeup remover wipes on your nightstand so you can do a quick wipe before you hit the sheets.  I recommend Shine Makeup Remover.

  2. Touching your face
Touching your face throughout the day is something that most women do subconsciously, without even realizing it.

Consistently touching your face encourages the transfer of dirt and oils from your fingertips onto your skin, which can clog pores and cause breakouts.  I have found that wearing makeup keeps me from touching my face because I don't want to mess my makeup.

  3. Using dirty makeup brushes
Ok,so think about all the surfaces your makeup brushes have come in contact with: your      face, your bathroom counter top and the inside of your makeup bag, just to name a few.  Given that makeup brushes see a lot of places, they need to be cleaned regularly to prevent them from becoming bacteria magnets (double eww)

Eventually, if you continue to use dirty brushes, they will irritate your skin and cause itching and burning eyes.  Using dirty brushes also impacts the look of your makeup; the application won't be as flawless.  Dirty brushes make for a streaky application.

I recommend cleaning your brushes once a week.  You can wash them with water and Dawn dish soap and lay them flat to dry.  Proper brush care will also extend the lifespan of your brushes, saving you money since you won't have to replace them as often.  Check out these brushes!  Complete Brush Set.

  4. Improperly applying eyeliner
I am totally guilty of this but pulling your delicate eyelids too taut when drawing on eyeliner is bad because it causes fine lines and wrinkles, and can cause injury to the very thin skin around the eye.

Instead try to keep your eyelid closed and relaxed when drawing on your liner.  Don't draw one continuous line, instead do short, even strokes all the way across the lid to get the most natural looking line.

  5. Over-tweezing your brows
We all know brow maintenance is key to looking groomed and polished, but some women get a little carried away and pluck until they're left with tadpole-like brows.  Lets be honest, there are many women who start plucking and don't know when to stop.  They always think that "just one more' and they'll be perfect.

This is definitely not the case.  Too much tweezing can completely change the look of your face.  If your brows are too thin, they can make your face look bigger and most importantly, they can make you appear older than you are.  Thicker eyebrows are much more youthful looking.

To get a nice shape for your brows, try not to get too close to the mirror.  If you get too up-close and personal it's very easy to lose perspective of how much hair you're removing.  To get a full picture, take a few steps back from the mirror and switch back and forth between brows so both your right and left brow get equal attention.
  6. Using old makeup
Like most household items, makeup expires.  Once the package is opened, makeup products become more susceptible to contamination, and can collect bacteria.

These germs will not only cause blemishes and skin irritations, but if you apply old makeup around the eye area, they can cause eye infections.  Your mascara should be replaced every 3-6 months; foundations and lip products should last around a year, and powder eye pigments and blushes can last up to 2 years.

I love Younique Cosmetics because they actually put the expiration date on their products.  Also NEVER share your makeup with anyone!  It's just asking for cross-contamination and a host of skin troubles.

  7. Picking at blemishes
Finally, the worst thing you can do is pick at your blemishes!  Even though blemishes are never flattering, squeezing them can make them even worse and leave permanent scars.  Resist the urge to pick and if you must get rid of a blemish, visit a professional esthetician who can gently extract whiteheads or blackheads.

With just a few tweaks to your existing routine, you can nip any bad beauty behaviors in the bud, and be on your way to a safer and healthier beauty regimen in no time.

How to Wear Your Midi Skirt This Winter

Remember just a few short months ago when your closet primarily consisted of midi skirts, mules, and crop tops?  Well you don't have to put your favorite skirts away for the colder months.  Here are some great ways to style your midi skirts this winter!

Just like you would wear with a pencil skirt, pairing your midi skirt with some knee-high boots will add that classy, urban-feel that makes you standout!  Of course you can go with the classic heel, in just about any height.  But for those women who can't wear heels, flat boots are a really great choice because you can have a completely dressy outfit while still wearing your flats!

How to Wear Sweaters This Winter

When it comes to living in Florida, we are very well known for our bikinis and summer outfits.  But during the cold winter days that are few and far in between, the sweater is a very important piece that can be worn so many different ways.  Not only are they comfortable and come in different variation, but if worn the right way they can flatter your figure.

We all can be stuck in a style routine every once in a while (especially during this season), whether it's wearing the same pair of boots all Winter or wearing the same black skinny jeans week after week, and of course when the weather is this chilly you always turn to your favorite leggings.  We are in the middle of Winter and we all are reaching for those cozy sweaters, but there is one question we all ask ourselves: "what the heck do we wear them with?"

If your anything like me, you can wear jeans - black high-waisted skinnies, or fitted high-waisted pencil skirt.  There are so many inspirations from the Fall 2015 runways to try out!  I still love my jeans, but it's time for something new and fresh.  Here are a few different ways to embrace the cold weather and still look super chic and elegant.
